The entrepreneurial activity is driven by the entrepreneurs (in most cases) the business owners. Because entrepreneurs are typically operating in environments characterised by high uncertainty, rapid change and growth, there is a massive amount of complexity confronting and impacting entrepreneurial activity. The entrepreneur must deal with the uncertain conditions of the future and only when the entrepreneur can anticipate the future events accurately and manage the situation appropriately the business may be sustained.
The impact of Covid 19 on the operating environment of entrepreneurs has been overwhelming for business operators everywhere in the world. It has also impacted the livelihoods of many people and has caused an enormous strain on micro, small and medium enterprises. Many SME operators in Myanmar are left wondering how to react to the crisis, with many considering either closing down or looking for new opportunities. Our holistic approach to entrepreneurship and enterprise development has the potential to support aspiring entrepreneurs as well as those looking to diversify their business for new opportunities. To respond to the needs and challenges of the entrepreneurs in rural Myanmar EDNA Myanmar-Matchrs-Moving Forward Together embarked on this pilot project. It is an online based approach for enterprise development.
We are pleased to report that this pilot project accepted 90 participants in the project locations. 19 new businesses were launched with 23 existing businesses’ growing. A total of 42 businesses benefited from this project. We are grateful to our partners in the field in particular, Face of Indawgyi, Hopin Mettayeik, Ngwesaung Youth Network, Kachin Baptist Convention Sama (Development and Humanitarian Department). We are very pleased to see the accomplishment of our participants who are able to overcome the challenges of COVID and continue to grow their business. We hope to maintain supporting the current participants while recruiting new intake for the next year program.
